Strawberry Deathblade

Rose McDowell is a personal icon of mine.  She's worked with Boyd Rice, Coil, Di6, Nature and Organisation, and (along with Jill Bryson) was one-half of the arty Scottish New Wave group Strawberry Switchblade.  They made poppy music so sweet and bouncy it makes your teeth hurt.

I've always loved the cover photograph for their 1985 eponymous album (photography by Peter McArthur and design by Chris Branfield).  McDowell and Bryson's style was too cool for words - lying somewhere between gothic playground, art-punk, and Victorian Lolita.
