Cate Richards is an artist and educator originally from Providence, Rhode Island and currently located in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Baker University with a BA in Art and Art History in 2012, and in 2017 began her attendance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an MFA Candidate. In 2016 she was named one of American Craft Week's "30 Exceptional Craftspeople Under 30", and was granted a residency at Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT. She also was named the inaugural resident for the COTN Residency in Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California and spent a week in March of 2017 creating work off the grid in the Mojave Desert. Currently, she is a TA for Foundations of Contemporary Art and Current Directions in Art at UW-Madison.
Cate has exhibited internationally and has shown work at EatMetal Inc. in Hoboken, NJ, Lillstreet Arts Center in Chicago, and the Gallery im Körnerpark, Berlin. She balances her studio practice along with working with nonprofit arts institutions and educational initiatives and has held positions at Wheelhouse Studios, The Lawrence Arts Center, P.E.O.P.L.E. Program, and The Society of North American Goldsmiths.
